InterClimate Network has an exciting programme of Schools Climate Conferences coming up to coincide with COP26 fortnight. Read more about the events happening in your area.

Photos from our 2019 Conference season. 2021 brings a mix of virtual and in-person events.

World leaders and decision makers in Glasgow take note: secondary school students from regions around the UK will come together for their own UN-style negotiations. They will seek to generate agreement on what has so far eluded world leaders – an international scale-up of global ambition to limit dangerous global warming.

The young people involved will also get a chance to put their questions to local decision makers as well as businesses and organisations promoting sustainability in areas including energy, transport, food, waste, and fashion. They will have something to take away too – their own action pledges!

5th Nov – Bristol Schools online (to coincide with Youth Day at COP26)

8th Nov – in a Wokingham school, bringing in partner schools

10th Nov – Reading Schools live in the Council Chambers

11 Nov – Solihull Schools live in the Council Chambers

12 Nov – Hounslow Schools online

12 Nov – Merseyside Schools, run by Liverpool World Centre using ICN model

Our work with schools: recent highlights

Our team was delighted to join with Radhika Chandrasingh of Harris Federation to share our digital climate conference experience at a special interest session for the Geographical Association – see the well viewed COP26 Session recording here. Model climate conferences provide secondary students with a tremendous insight into the issues and decisions being taken at COP26 and as put by one teacher, helps with “engaging and enthusing kids” about climate issues.

There has also been a great response to our COP26 Classroom resource and the team has linked with teachers and organisations from Aberdeen to Exeter and the Isle of Man to Hungary. From our online training about how to run your own conference, we know that model climate conferences have already taken place and many others are being planned in classes and across year groups, and even between schools around the time of COP26.
