Holme Grange School and InterClimate Network (ICN) are delighted to welcome students to participate in this Climate Conference modelled on COP28 of the United Nations, to take place on Tuesday 5 December. The schools attending are:

Conference summary

Part 1 of the conference will be run as if students are taking part in global negotiations at COP28. Each school will be assigned a country and tasked to prepare their delegation’s (short) opening speech. They will represent their country’s views, address key questions (see COP28 Overview) and network informally with other country delegations.

Part 2 brings the issues close to home so that young people can have a say about climate action in their area. Local decision-makers will present and young people will be invited to put forward their questions and contributions. The session will include ways to make the most difference in school and end with pledges for actions.

Part 1 Global Negotiations

In preparation for the conference, students should meet in their country groups (at least once) to read the briefings and write an opening statement. Relevant links are referenced in the briefings if students have time for their own research.

Part 2 Local Action

Schools are invited to make a short presentation, if they want, or to think in advance about:

  • Climate action(s) that their school is already taking to address carbon reduction
  • Climate ambition(s) to help reduce even more of its emissions – this can be students’ own ideas or a chance to ask about plans at school (eg eco-group and Senior Leaders).
